Toronto Women’s Half

Screw it. I’ll do the re-cap without the pictures since it is fresh in my mind 🙂

So today I ran the first ever Toronto Women’s Half Marathon!  A Half-Marathon for women! What a great idea! (Oh and YES they did have shirtless buff HOT firefighters handing out water and Gatorade along the route!! hahaha AND a chocolate station. Can you tell women were behind this event?) To my understanding there were 1500 participants. I completely recommending making the trek to Toronto to participate or if you already live here, even better!

I will admit it: I went to bed last night completely and totally not in marathon mode. The last week has been incredibly stressful with life and work (I will spare the details- I am not one for going into details 🙂 ). In addition, last week wasn’t the most nutritious week and with my sensitive stomach I MUST be very careful the week up to a run- eating very balanced and no refined, processed food. This did not happen because I had no time to cook and I was stuck dealing with convenience (I even had pizza! I am so not a pizza kinda girl). (As a side one of my friends/colleagues who works on the trading desk was running too! YAY Sandy! And she said she can eat anything- in fact she had Burger King last night and NO stomach pain! I think of fast food and I get stomach pain! :-0) Anyway, I was so NOT in the state for an optimal run which was slightly disappointing because I thought this would have been a great opportunity to beat my personal best (1:48 last October) When my stomach wasn’t bothering me (it wasn’t the whole run- probably 3-5K in total) the run actually felt really good! I felt light on my feet and my strides were great! Damn stomach!!

Any tips??

Race Re-Cap:  The route was great! It was through park trails in the north-east end of the city near Leslie & Eglington. I wasn’t expecting it to be completely on paved trails but it was and I was impressed! As predicted, my stomach did NOT cooperate! I wanted to cry! It was either stop and go to the washroom or quit. Quitting isn’t an option with me obviously. 🙂 So I asked one of the volunteers if there were washrooms along the route and her response was “pick a bush- hahaha”!!! Luckily, I grew up in the north and like most runners, have no shame. Yes, ladies and gentlemen, I popped a squat! haha Shortly thereafter I had to go again (dammit!) but luckily it was right around the outdoor washrooms- yes!! SADLY- I lost 8-10 minutes in washrooms breaks. I know this based on the difference between my Nike Plus time (I stopped it each time I had a bathroom break) and my chip time.

My Official Toronto Women’s Half Time: 1 Hour, 58 Minutes

I see it as not being bad given the stoppages but it still irks me! I know I can do better! I know I shouldn’t be so hard on myself but I know I am capable of more. 🙂 Next time! 🙂

We got a necklace at the end instead of a medal! What a great idea! It’s cool too and it still says all the necessary race information. Check it out:

my medal!

my medal!

I’ll post pictures of me running once  I get them 🙂

Now on to food. 🙂

Last night I put chicken drumsticks  to season in the fridge over night. I first mixed together a bunch of barbecue sauces (honey, regular, brown sugar, etc), ketchup, honey, and soya sauce. Before dunking the chicken in the mixture, I seasoned the outside of the chicken with seasalt and garlic mix and a cajun spice. I dunked each drumstick in the sauce mixture and then poured the rest over the chicken. I am huge on overnight seasoning to let the tastes infuse in the meat. This evening I baked it for over an hour at a very low temperature (200 I think) and the for another hour at around 400 degrees. Yes, it falls right off the bone with this method. Check out the final product:

look good?

It scents were amazing! I could smell it all the way down the hall! To complete my dinner I added some steamed broccoli, sweet corn on the cob, and beets. Oh the chicken was soooooooo freakin’ good! Such a great taste!!

such a great dinner!

such a great dinner!

My hunger has not deserted me at all this evening! I am still hungry even though I have been snacking on some Dove milk chocolate squares, an unhealthy Joe Louis (a Joe Louis?! Melissa!! haha), and something else but I can’t remember. I am still hungry! That run burned through a lot of calories I guess. 🙂 I should have something somewhat healthy.

I am going to back to my Reduction in Nighttime Snacking Challenge tomorrow for sure if anyone wants to join me!! 🙂

Enjoy your evening!

Guess who’s back….Melissa’s back!!

Hi!!!!!!!!!!!! I missed you!  I missed blogging! I am back. Life just got so busy last week. No time to do everything I love. Such is life- right ladies and gentlemen? 🙂 I am so not going to go back and blog all that I ate all week- that would take eons. Plus I don’t have any pictures to show for it and what is a blog without pictures!

I can’t wait to catch up on blog reading after I post this message.

Well, first things first: I ran another half-marathon today!! The first annual Toronto Women’s Half Marathon! I will blog all about it once I get the pictures. It was a good race though and I am proud to have another under my belt!

I woke up with a sore stomach before my run so eating was not an option! I came home around the run around 11:30am and was ready to eat! I made some French toast with whole-wheat toast and egg whites. Oh it was such a treat! I added the perfect amount of egg white! I also had some tasty watermelon. Very satisfying meal!

I spent my entire afternoon cleaning! It felt really good! I love nice clean floors and everything in it’s right place! 🙂

Right now I am chowing down again. I made a much-needed salad with mixed greens, sweet red peppers, yellow grape tomatoes, scallions, beets, and raw sunflower seeds tossed with Raspberry Vinagrette. Just what my body needed!! I also made a veggie-less (hehe all the veggies were in the salad) pizza with a spinach wrap, salami and cheddar. I also added some grapes on the side- something I have been craving for awhile.

Now I am off to do some much-needed blog reading! I really missed all of your posts! Catch-up time! 🙂 xo

Rediscovering Ketchup

I forgot how truly tasty tasty ketchup is! I do realize the traditional Heinz Ketchup is high in sugar. Perhaps you can recommend a homemade recipe or a organic brand with less sugar??

Ketchup was the centre of my dinner simply because I wanted it to be. I found a sweet potato in my fruit/veggie dish and chopped the beauty up into strips to make sweet potato fries! I threw them on a  baking sheet that I sprayed with Pam cooking spray. Is it obvious that sweet potato fries are my new favourite find?

What is your new favourite dish you recently discovered?

The rest of my dinner involved a chicken breast that I grilled on the stove top. I shredded it and added ketchup and BBQ sauce. It was essentially the pulled chicken I made on Friday sans the bun. 🙂 I loved this meal!

This afternoon I snacked on a product I had picked up in the US the last time I was there: Orville Redenbacher Natural Buttery Garlic PopcornGreat things about this product: it comes in individualized snack-sized bags, it has a wonderful great taste, and it’s natural and organic!

REDUCTION IN NIGHTTIME SNACKING CHALLENGE!!

So are you with me on the Reduction in Nighttime Snacking Challenge? I thought reduction was a better word than
elimination because an all or nothing plan generally leads to failure. My first disclaimer is that I think you
should absolutely create a plan that will work for you but below I have laid something out and perhaps you would
like to do exactly as I will or alter it a little. It is definitely important to lay out a plan because concrete
goals aid in success. After I lay out a plan, I want to discuss some of the issues/ideas surrounding
(over) snacking because I believe knowing the root cause and suggesting way to deal with it helps in correcting the problems. **note this does not have to be limited to nighttime snacking- perhaps you are daytime over-snacker**

Reduction in Nighttime Snacking Challenge Overview

*Reduce the occurrence of nighttime snacking to once a week to incorporate the idea that a nighttime snack is a
treat. Pick the night at the beginning of the week.
*Pick out something you have been craving to have for the snack night. Make sure it is something you really love. Also make sure it occurs on a night you are actually hungry.
*Plan out your days better in order to ensure you are getting the proper nutrition throughout the day and avoid
getting hungry at night
*Ensure you are drinking enough fluids throughout the day to keep yourself hydrated. *sometimes you are simply
thirsty when you are reaching for food*
*Always eat intuitively

There are so many issues surrounding snacking too much. If you are like me, evening snacking can turn into a spiralling
event- a slippery slope-type adventure.

It is important to always be conscious of what you are eating and know whether you are hungry by using your intuition.
You should never eat mindlessly or for any other reason other than being genuinely hungry. Easier said than done,
you say? I would have to agree as I likely would not have this challenge if I always ate intuitively.

Let’s talk about someone we probably all see within and may be the root cause of your nighttime snacking: The
Emotional Eater.
You eat because you are sad. You eat because you are happy. You eat because you are bored. You eat
because you are upset. You eat because you are lonely. You eat because you are mad. You eat because you feel overwhelmed.
You eat because you are nervous. You eat because you are feeling insecure. I could go on and on.You get the idea. It’s so important
to identify if you are eating because you are trying to meet some emotional need rather than out of hunger.
Recognition is the first step. There are other (amazing ways) to deal with your emotions.I’ll make some suggestions later.
You can do this! You can become an intuitive eater. Ultimately, I believe, the ability to eat intuitively will
boost self-confidence and make you a happier person.

Michelle at Lucky Taste Bud just posted an AMAZING reflection (Why You “Emotional Eat” ) on Roger Gould’s Book “Shrinking Yourself- Break Free From Emotional Eating Forever” .I highly suggest you take a look at it. One point I took from her wonderful review
to include here: over-snacking “is not a sense of powerlessness over food BUT a deeper experience of powerlessness.”

Before I go on, if you are using you are using your intuition and you are actually hungry, you should DEFINITELY
have a snack. I am not promoting starvation. I am promoting listening to your senses and eliminating mindless
nighttime eating
. I do however suggest you choose a healthy snack if you do require a night time snack.
Make a list of healthy options for nighttime snack. Choose one when the hungry creeps up on a given evening. Do not open the
fridge and move from one thing to the next.

List of Healthy Snack Options

* A piece of fruit
* A bag of Smart Pop popcorn
* A fruit juice popcicle
* Whole grain crackers & peanut butter (portion controlled)
* Frozen Yogurt with Calcium (portion controlled)
* A salad
* A small bowl of healthy cereal
* Cottage Cheese & Fruit
* A piece of Whole Wheat Toast with your favourite nut butter
* Two squares of dark chocolate
Now there are many ways to combat mindless munching. Let me draw up a list for reference. Yours may be slightly
different but perhaps it will inspire you to draw up your own list (I highly suggest you do).

Ways to Combat Mindless Munching

* Drink a glass of water or tea to determine whether you are actually hungry- chances are you are not if you are
eating a well-balanced diet throughout the day
* Plan some nighttime activity like a leisurely walk or a swim
* Take a glorious bubble bath- indulge lady!
* That hobby you have? Bring it out! I LOVE to scrapbook and it’s a great way to spend an hour or two
* Do some chores like put those piles of laundry away
* Indulge in some of your favorite shows and a specialty cup of herbal tea- there are some amazing kinds out there
* Read, read, read! Books are amazing. Period.
* Get those much desired Zzzzzzz’s. We all go to bed too late generally. Go to bed early or on time.

It’s also very important to deal with the emotional problems that may be effecting your eating. We are all different and have different ways to deal with this. The point is you should deal with them. Talk to a family member or a friend or perhaps a professional. It’s amazing how talking about it can really help.

I don’t want to offend the men (if there are any) that read my blog so disregard the next few comments.

We are powerful, strong women and we can do whatever we put our mind to!

Mary Wollstonecraft: “I do not wish them to have power over men, but over themselves.”
Washington Urving: “There is in every true woman’s heart, a spark of heavenly fire, which lies dormant in the broad
daylght of prosperity, but which kindles up and beams and blazes in the dark hour of adversity.”
Janis Joplin: “Don’t compromise yourself. You’re all you’ve got”

Don’t forget to post amazing thoughts/comments/ideas! 🙂

My sunshine has come

Ladies I loved the comments regarding T.I.’s song You Can Have Whatever You Like.

Ashley you really made me laugh.  Patron is actually a type of alcohol- tequila to be exact *yuck*. I don’t think I have ever had it but I am sure it isn’t cheap since it made it into the song. You mentioned a lot of what T.I. says you don’t really want so how about we all come up with a Top Five List of things we want for the remix of the song?

Here’s My You Can Have Whatever You Like List (T.I.- I’ll gladly provide some vocals ;-))

1. vacation on a private island

2. a souped-up kitchen

3. a daily trip to the spa

4. a personal trainer for every day

5.  a superb wine collection

I know those are pretty material requests but I am not going to put down corny things like true happiness. haha

I am back on the couch at 2:30pm this Sunday afternoon. As planned, I got up and went for a long run. Let me give you a little context: I slept in a little too late and didn’t head out the door until after 11am. Words of advice? If you plan a long run in the warmer weather you MUST get up earlier. It was way too hot and I was really red I am sure. Thank Goodness for the water belt! I felt pretty crappy for most of the run with a few spurts of awesome. I also have to control that late night snacking (hence the Late Night Snacking Challenge! I will write a post later this evening with more details since we start tomorrow) because I felt like there were things still swimming around in my tummy. At any rate, I am stubborn as hell and I pushed through!! I absolutely love this new route. Without going into too much detail, I incorporate some great hills and steady inclines to challenge myself. I also run across the Don Valley Bridge at Bayview & Lawrence and it is soooooooooo pretty this time of year with all the trees blooming! What a gorgeous view! Although it was quite hot, I did enjoy the sunshine. I should have taken an after picture so you could see the pain on my face. LOL

Did you work out today? How was it?

Product Review

Before I went to bed last night, I tried the So Delicious Dairy Free Chocolate Peanut Butter Frozen Dessert.

From the So Delicious Website:

“America’s best-selling non-dairy frozen dessert! Cool and creamy, certified organic, undeniably delicious……now you can say goodbye to all that butterfat and cholesterol without compromising on satisfaction”

I enjoyed it. You can REALLY taste the peanut butter and I personally couldn’t taste the chocolate flavour at all. If you wanted the mix of the two flavours, this product is not for you but if you love peanut butter like I do, then this product is something you should buy! It is perfect creamy. Yum! The price is steep though. I think I paid $7.29 for 946ml- yes, not cheap! The nutritional information isn’t too bad either: per 1/2 cup: 140 cals, 4.5 grams fat, 2 grams fibre. No calcium or vitamins though so maybe add some fruit to increase the nutrition. 🙂 My brother Matt is not a health food type of guy in any way (I would probably dub him a classic meat and potato type of guy- in fact, growing up he barely ate any vegetables and it took a woman (his fiancee) to get him to eat salad HAHAHAHA- love you Matt! 🙂 Anyway, Matt would DEFINITELY like this Soy Delicious Treat as he is a peanut butter connoisseur.

Saturday Night snack

Saturday Night snack

After my big run this morning, I wasn’t hungry right away so I washed off the layer of salt LOL Do you ever get a layer of salt on your skin after a hard workout?

I wanted something delicious and nutrition for lunch so I pulled out an egg and some egg whites, sweet red pepper and a scallion to make a wonderful omelette. On the side I chopped up one of my giant carrot and added a handful of sugar snap peas. I also included a slice of whole wheat toast with peanut butter and homemade tropical jam.

On the side I finally cut up the mango I had in my fruit dish.  I ended up chopping the whole thing because it’s really hard to keep a half-cut mango fresh so why not chow down on the whole thing?? I also added some tasty watermelon. Yes, I am in fruit heaven this time of year.

Now I must get to work on some words for the Late Night Snack Challenge and catch up on some blog reading. My house is in a slight state of disarray because some laundry needs to be put away but that shouldn’t take long. 🙂

And I leave you with me and Laylay being lazy bums on the couch last night.

You Can Have Whatever You Like

I really like that T.I song…it’s just so catchy. I couldn’t tell you what he is saying other than you can basically have whatever you want including Petron and a bunch of stuff. haha I love that song.

Thanks ladies for the approval of my lazy day 🙂 Makes me feel better about it. I could never do this every day because I would go stir crazy and insane.  I did do a few things like clean and cook but nothing major.

Dinner hunger came around 7:30pm this evening. I had a craving for spring rolls and I was kind of planning to make my own from scratch but then I remembered I had some President’s Choice Chicken Spring Rolls in the freezer and I am trying to use up everything in the freezer before the big move in a couple of months. I also found some frozen cauliflower and thought it would go well with a little Cheese Whiz.

I also created a salad with spinach, sweet red peppers, avocado, sugar snap peas, walnuts, apples and sunflower seeds tossed with raspberry vinagrette. Another satisfying meal. 🙂

My couch hasn’t seen this much of me before

I really have not done a lot since my last post 🙂 I picked up a few groceries and cleaned the kitchen up. It’s so nice outside! I should be out there sitting in the sun or something….maybe I will go read on the 3rd Floor rooftop. I am not motivated today at all.  LOL I will re-group tomorrow with a super long run and a clean-fest. Sound like a plan? It’s so hard for me not to do things and feel guilty if I am not doing one task or another. I have to learn to relax. Perhaps that will help with my sleeping?

I created a really tasty lunch with a Dempster’s Spinach Wrap, tomato sauce, prosciutto salami, mushrooms, yellow tomatoes, sweet red peppers, and Sargento Monteray Jack/Cheddar mix. It was soooooooo incredibly tasty!!

As I typed this I am snacking on a small bowl of President’s Choice Double Chocolate Crunch Granola. It’s very tasty and more like a dessert than a cereal granola to me.

Fruit for Life

The sun is out and the temperature is perfect! 🙂 I hope you are all having a wonderful weekend. I spent a little too much time in bed this morning. I suffer from mild insomnia and generally wake up 5 or more times each night so mornings can be rough. By the time Saturday rolls around, a few extra hours relaxing in bed are sometimes necessary. I think I am hitting a rough patch lately because I have been staying in bed later and later on weekend mornings when I don’t have something specific to get up for. I dislike it and much prefer getting up earlier and having a whole day in front of me. Unfortunately I have a lot on my mind with all the changes coming up and it has been effecting my sleep.

Perhaps you have some advice on how to deal with mild insomnia?

I wasn’t hungry for a long time today because of all the snacks I had last night. I have no pictures 🙂

I went for a walk outside because it is so gorgeous! I stopped in at Winners and headed to the workout wear section. After reading Meghann’s post regarding sports bras, I was reminded I needed to replace a few. If you have not been to Winners before, it is basically a store where they sell brand names for less. The only downfall everything is mixed together in categories: dress pants, long-sleeved shirts, jeans, etc. etc.  so it can be difficult to find things. I’m tryng to remember the name of the American equivalent to Winners but the name isn’t coming to me…

I really don’t want to resort to drugs. I have tried the over-the-counter type and I really dislike the way they make me feel. I appreciate any advice 🙂

I found this lovely:

ADIDAS

ADIDAS

Unfortunately this was the ONLY one I could find in my size. It is an Adidas ClimaCool Sports Bra. The label says     “Stay cool, stay dry. ClimaCool is ventilation and moisture management for your body, providing optimum comfort and performance.” Whenever I buy a new sports bra I ensure that is make of wicking material like ClimaCool or CoolMax or whatever the sports line calls the material. It is soooooo important! Trust me: I have been running for over 8 years and a good, supportive, VENTILATING sports bra is absolutely necessary. I have roughly 15-25 sports bras but I must go through them and get rid of the ones that are passed their prime 🙂 I am actually afraid to go to the bedroom and start purging- it’s going to definitely be a weekend event.

I was hungry by the time I got home around 1pm after my jaunt outside. I knew I needed to have pancakes after seeing them on so many blogs (too many to name). I made three pancakes and chopped up a delicious banana to go with it. To avoid drenching my pancakes, I put the syrup in a small bowl so I could dip my yummy breakfast. I also created an amazing fruit salad with watermelon, strawberries, blueberries, and kiwi. Look how pretty it looks:

look good?

look good?

fruit!!

fruit!!

All together now:

breakfast? lunch? brunch?

breakfast? lunch? brunch?

Everything tasted really good! It’s such a treat to switch things up. The taste buds are always appreciative!

I think I will make this a slow-moving day all around. I will definitely take the day off from the gym because 6 days a week is plenty :-p I may go for a swim just to loosen you my muscles. I have some ideas flowing with regard to dinner so I have to look through some cookbooks…I’ll also do some mandatory cleaning but nothing major.

Oh and I FINALLY posted some recipes in my Recipe Box!! I will post the rest today and to make my life easier, I will post the recipes as I make them going forward 🙂

Blog reading time! 🙂

I’m going to eat the vending machine!

Friday spells relief. Friday means freedom. I love Fridays. Can you tell? 🙂

Do you want to know just how crazy investment bankers are?? Let me tell you how crazy investment bankers are. 🙂 (oh and you should absolutely read Monkey Business: Swinging Through the Wall Street Jungle even if really don’ t care for anything banking- the book is so hilarious AND sadly pretty factual). Anyway back to my crazy investment bankers. Investment bankers work long hours. They work around the clock and pull all-nighters on a regular basis but I will not rant about how inhumane that is right now. My point is that working a million hours a week breeds insanity.

This weeks investment bankers insanity: challenge three coop student bankers to race to see who could eat one thing each from the vending machine?! If you are not familiar with what is in a standard vending machine, it is straight up CRAP. hahaha In our vending machine there are a total of 45 items including 15 bags of chips, a myriad of chocolate bars and really crappy crap like 3 packs of Halls! I even took the liberty of adding it up and it was well over 13,000 Calories. Word got around quickly that these three young lads were participating in the crazy (silly) contest. Here are the goods: the head of the investment bank even got wind of the situation and said he would give $100 to the guy who could eat the most in the first 15 minutes. The remainder of the booty ($900) was coming from a bunch of the bankers and would be given to the guy who ate everything the fastest (oh and they had to do it between the hours of 10am- 6pm). A very large crowd gathered in a boardroom to watch the first 15 minutes go down and boy did they shovel it in. Needless to say these guys were looking more and more like crap as they ate more and more junk. I could see the glaze in the eyes and apparently the M&A coop had a bit of a nose bleed situation. Ironically, he ended up winning.

Now is that crazy or what?! Work and no sleep obviously leads to crazy behaviour.

Moral of the story: if you are ever challenged to eat your weight in food, for the love of God don’t do it! Go to bed instead because you need some serious sleep. LOL

Okay- I had to share that story with you. I am truly going to miss the bank for stories like the above. 🙂

My eats were pretty boring until dinner came around.

Breakfast was another plain cinnamon raisin bagel from Tim Horton’s. Unfortunately we didn’t make it to the patio so I had a Ham Sub from Subway. See, boring!!

I had two bars throughout the day which included the Quaker Delights Dark Chocolate Raspberry Almond and a Chocolate Raspberry LunaBar. Both are amazing. I particularly love everything Lunabar because the nutritional information is phenomenal and is geared toward women. For example, the bar I had has 35% of the recommended daily intake of calcium and 30% of recommended daily intake of iron. The list goes on. I suggest clicking the link above and checking it out.

I also cracked into some more dark chocolate. I branched out into something entirely new: a mini Green & Black’s Organic Dark Chocolate with Orange & Spices: Maya Gold. Oh so amazing! So creamy and so full of flavour!! The Green & Black’s Organic chocolate line is fabulous! This is my first time trying this particular flavour and I absolutely recommend it. I found these cute little mini bars at a health food store in the tower my office is in. I am all about compact sizes to prevent from eating a giant bar. 🙂

very good

very good

So I had a lot to burn off when I got to the gym around 4pm. haha I was very much in the mood for a run. Because I was under a time limit and could only fit in a 50 minute run, I increased the speed to work on my speedwork. It felt so very good. I was dripping sweat. I enjoy dripping sweat.

Run Stats: 50 minutes, 5.64 miles, 8:04 Min/Mil

And the reason for the time constraint: I had an appointment for a massage!! It was long overdo!! Oh man did it feel great! Unfortunately it was only for half an hour because I didn’t think to book it until this afternoon (I booked an hour long one for next week). The masseuse focused on my pack, shoulders and neck. I pretty much fell asleep. I kind of come of the massage disoriented on the best of days. haha It was just what I needed though… 🙂

I stopped at the grocery store  on my way home and picked up some fabulous items:

Grocery Shop Friday

Grocery Shop Friday

Up top you will find: chicken breast, turkey breast (Susan of Trying for a Tri recommended the brand- Susan did I grab the right one? There were so many to choose from hehehe), sweet red peppers, giant carrots, sweet corn on the cob, a zucchini, a sweet potato, 2 bananas, a Fuji apple, some watermelon (finally!), yellow tomatoes, sugar snap peas, a whole wheat grain bun, Good Karma Frozen Dessert, and lastly Soy Delicious Peanut Butter & Chocolate Soy Ice Cream (a new find)!!

I was very BAD because I also picked up a package of Jelly Belly Jelly Beans. I am sure most of you have tried these delicious treats. It is uncanny how each bean tastes like the flavour it is supposed to! 🙂

What is your favourite Jelly Belly Flavour?

tastiness

tastiness

Yes, the entire 100 grams is now gone. OOPS! 🙂

As I was munching on these badboys, I made some dinner. I was inspired by Erica from Itzy’s Kitchen and her last delicious looking post of Pulled Chicken. Take a look at her blog- it’s awesome! I grilled a chicken breast after adding a little bit of salt to it. After letting the chicken cool, I pulled it and added some BBQ Sauce and Ketchup.

step one of the chicken mess

I topped the amazing multigrain whole wheat bun with the pulled chicken.

oh yes I did!

oh yes I did!

I needed some veggies in my life big time! I threw together a rather large salad with Boston lettuce, sweet yellow pepper, mini yellow tomatoes, avocado, raspberries, blueberries, and walnuts all tossed with a little splash of Raspberry Vinagrette.

a salad a day....

a salad a day....

I am so excited to try the Soy Delicious Peanut Butter & Chocolate Soy Ice Cream! I mind as well do it tonight because Monday means the beginning of the No Night Snacking Challenge! I am so also excited to see people want to join me on this challenge!! I am going to put some thought into this tomorrow and I will post some thoughts and goals and a general overview either tomorrow night or Sunday. Don’t worry- it won’t be an all or nothing type challenge 🙂 Let’s be real, those do not work for most people. Also I want to assure you that I don’t think having an evening snack equates to getting “fat” and there are so many people out there who can have a nighttime snack and healthily so. The problem for me is I go overboard and the best way to deal with it now is to eliminate it and then gradually re-introduce it. I hope others will join us on the challenge. 🙂

I hope everyone has a great Friday evening! 🙂 I want to catch up on some blog reading and watch 20/20.
